What You Should Know When Preparing To Move To Milton Keynes

07/15/2022

Together with my long-time partner, my 2 kids, cat and dog, we recently packed house from our five-bedroom Edwardian house located in Bletchley where we had lived for the past 13 years to Milton Keynes soon after carrying out some major renovations on our property.

Given that Milton Keynes is just a few miles from our old home, you would have expected that the move would be hassle-free but there were a lot of intricate processes involved including packing our bags and other possessions. Based on our personal experiences, I have compiled a few top tips for Ark Relocation on how you can make your move smoother when relocating to Milton Keynes.

Here they are ...

1. Declutter Your Home First

I at first thought that I had decluttered my home when I put a few things away to give our real estate agent the chance to take some alluring photos of our home. Turns out I just moved a few things from one place to hide them in another. Once I received a good offer for our home, I had to declutter the home again which was a time-consuming, tedious and boring task. Based on my experience, I would advice that you start packing your possessions thoroughly once you decide that you want to sell. Decluttering your home early will also help you save money on packing items since you can always re-use packing boxes that you have already used.

2. Keep Your Prized Personal Possessions Safe

Pay special attention to keep away your prized possessions such as jewellery away separately before packing your other possessions. You may even entrust them to somebody in your close circles for safe keeping. When moving, I distinctly remember seeing my wedding ring, eternity ring and engagement ring but cannot seem to find where I placed them when unpacking my possessions in our new home. Though they will eventually turn up, this is a problem I could have easily avoided if I had packed them properly.

3. Dismantle Your Furniture in Advance

It usually takes longer than you may think to dismantle things such as a chest of drawers and beds. I highly recommend that you start dismantling your furniture and other large fixtures long before you actually have to move. A great tip is to move your family to downstairs rooms while dismantling the bedrooms at the top. If all fails, find a moving company with handy removal men like Ark Relocation.

4. Moving Requires a Lot of Hard Work - It's Not Always Possible to DIY

When handling some moving processes such as packing, you can either choose to do it yourself or hire a company that engages labourers for the process. If you are entrusting the process to removals men, ensure that they are skilled in the art of packing. According to the advice website - Removal Reviews, the average cost of moving from a 3-bedroom houses ranges around £900 with an extra £300 for packing costs. You can lower some of the costs of relocating by carrying out some simple DIY tasks such as packing personally.

5. Keep Your Purse Close

From the small stops you take while in transit to your new home to emergency expenses, you will likely need your purse at some point when relocating. To prevent your purse from getting lost or worse stolen while you are travelling to your new home, ensure that you keep it close to you. Further, only pack with the items that you will likely need while you are in transit or when you get to your new home such as keys, credit cards and money.

6. Leave Your Kids and Pets

On the actual moving day, consider first going alone with your movers and partner. The prospect of your kids running into their new home seems exciting but this is not always the case. Chances are that your kids will get bored of their new living environment within a short time. Consider leaving your kids with family members, and having your pets boarded, until you have made your new house feel like a home.

7. Ensure That You Have a Stand-By Survival Kit

You will definitely need some essential supplies once you get to your new home. To avoid getting frustrated, take a packing crate and pack all the essential items you will likely need immediately you get to your Bromley house such as a kettle, milk, teabags, coffee, sugar, snacks and snacks. In another separate box, you can also pack other less relevant (yet important) items such as toiletries, air freshener and important medication.

8. Remember That Creating a Home Environment Takes Time

Do not expect that your new home will be void of troubles. For example, we converted the loft in our new Bromley home to make a master en-suite bedroom which means that we need more storage space in our new home. We have currently rented out storage space for our extra possessions until we can sort through the items to identify what we need or do not need. The point that I am trying to make is that it will take some time to make your new house feel like home. No move is ever hassle-free or perfect - remember that. Take your time arranging your possessions and carrying out the requisite renovations in your new home until you are comfortable with your new living arrangements.
